Since its inception in 1986, Dufresne Furniture & Appliances has been a beacon of Canadian entrepreneurship, representing the core values of dedication, community service, and excellence.

Established by Doug and Eva Dufresne in Kenora, Ontario, this family-run enterprise has grown from a single store to a flourishing brand with 15 locations across Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. We are proud to “live local” through the unique connections we make with our local communities, our local vendors, and our support for local Canadian economies and accessibility to home goods.

Canadian owned and operated, Dufresne Furniture is deeply rooted in family values. When Doug and Eva Dufresne founded the brand, they instilled values of hard work, respect, and kindness.

Highly engaged, experienced, and dynamic leaders, work closely with Mark and our executive team on all areas of our operation. Together they reinforce the mission, vision, values, beliefs and culture the Dufresne family established, starting with that first store in Kenora, Ontario, to provide a better experience to our teams, our community, and our guests.

Brother to Mark and Shaun, Mike Dufresne worked alongside his family for 31 years, holding many positions within the Dufresne Group. In early 2022, Mike was diagnosed with terminal cancer, a battle he fought with grace, dignity, and courage until his passing in March of 2023.

The Dufresne approach is characterized by a strong sense of community and customer focus. Our brand’s commitment to employing its own delivery teams, call center professionals, and repair technicians ensures a superior customer experience—an ethos that Doug Dufresne championed from the start.

rooted in the canadian prairies

Our growth is a testament to our team’s unwavering dedication to quality and community service. From the opening of the first store in Kenora, the brand expanded to Winnipeg by 1993 and progressively added locations in Swan River, Selkirk, Portage la Prairie, and Brandon. By 2009, Dufresne operated 11 stores, and by 2017, we celebrated the opening of our 14th store in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

This expansion reflects our company’s ability to adapt and thrive in new markets while maintaining our core values. Our evolution from a seven-member team to nearly 400 employees demonstrates a sincere commitment to growth and community engagement.

Although known to many as quiet and reserved, it was Mike’s empathy, humour, generosity, and competitive nature that made him an incredible teacher and developer of talent. While his desire to win was second to none, Mike loved to see others win. To honour Mike and the contributions he made to our business and the people he worked with, Dufresne has created the Michael Dufresne Make Life Better Memorial Award, presented annually at the Circle of Excellence Awards Gala.

Our commitment to community service is evident in our support for charitable organizations through grants and initiatives like the Dream Big program. Through our partnerships, including our annual Dream Day Event hosted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, over 1400 beds have gone to those in need in the community. By giving back, Dufresne not only supports those in need but also fulfills its purpose to “Make Life Better.” Through these efforts, Dufresne strengthens its ties with local communities, contributing to local economies, and fostering accessibility to quality furniture, bedding, and appliances
